Position Description:

The RegionalManager, Safety, Health & Environmental Affairs (SHEA) assists indeveloping and/or implementing methods procedures, systems, devices,regulations and standards directed toward the conservation of human andphysical assets at company operations in regions of the U.S. and world asassigned. Specific duties include butare not limited to:

· Oversightof environmental remediation activities at Company locations.

· Expertconsultations for the environmental, safety, health, industrial hygiene andfire prevention activities at Company locations.

· Developmentand administration of education and compliance programs concerning federal,state and local regulations regarding all EPA and OSHA standards, generalsafety programs, and fire prevention.

· DevelopingPollution Prevention and Safety Continuous Improvement projects and providingguidance on implementation.

· Auditingand reporting on safety, health, environmental and fire prevention complianceat assigned facilities.

· Communicationof Safety and Environmental goals and successes within operating Divisions.

Key Accountabilities :

· Assistin directing the Safety, Health and Environmental Affairs effort which encompassessafety, health, fire protection and environmental issues (toxic substances,hazardous materials, clean water, clean air, etc.). This effort requires:

· Reviewof current federal, state, local and international directives/regulations/standardsto ensure compliance at all locations.

Preparationof analyses concerning above regulatory information as it may affect expansion,new construction, new plant operations, etc.

Preparationof plans, procedures and policies relating to worldwide compliance.

Manageand/or conduct training and development of SHEA coordinators at companylocations to comply with new regulatory requirements.

Direct/overseeenvironmental cleanup and remediation projects at company locations.

· Conductenvironmental testing as required.

Accomplishcomprehensive SHEA audits on a regular basis to ensure compliance withapplicable directives at each location.

Reviewand approve safety equipment in use to ensure that it is appropriate.

Accomplishaccident/injury investigations as required.

Accomplishmost of the above requirements with minimal supervision, making independent andresponsible decisions concerning these job duties and responsibilities.


a. Assignment, Review and Approval ofWork

Projects are generallyself-generated based on the need to respond to day-to-day changes in facilityoperations and to comply with new and existing federal, state and localregulations. Additional direction comesfrom the Corporate Director of Safety, Health & Environmental Affairs. TheRegional Manager will provide guidance and assistance to the Safety, Health andEnvironmental Affairs managers and coordinators throughout the company.

b. Responsibility and Decision-Making

Can authorize expenditures approvedin the budget in conjunction with Company guidelines. Make independent decisions associated withareas of responsibility or as results from tasks assigned. Often required to make decisionsspontaneously under emergency conditions.

c. RelationshipsWith Outside Organizations

Outside contacts include safety supplyvendors, local fire department, insurance industry consultants, representativesof various regulatory agencies, industrial hygiene consultants, equipmentmanufacturers representatives, and counterparts at other industries.

d. OrganizationalRelationships

There is close coordination withCorporate Director of Safety, Health and Environmental Affairs, Vice Presidentsof Operations, Regional Manufacturing/Operations, Legal Department, HumanResources, SHEA Managers, Plant Managers and production management at eachlocation.

e. Major or Unusual Challenges

The major challenge associated withthis position is the reinforcement of correct environmental procedures andsafety behavior of employees in order to meet Safety, Health and EnvironmentalAffairs objectives, i.e., attempting to deal with the constant “dilemma” of“safety vs. production.” In addition,the age of equipment and buildings, congestion, and the resultant must beaddressed.

This position is required tocommunicate with all levels of management that company safety and environmentalgoals are both legal requirements and good business practices.

f. “Makesor Breaks”

Must be a self-starter and mustaggressively and diplomatically pursue and gain the cooperation of all echelonsof management to support safety, health and environmental issues. Most importantly, the attention of the frontline supervisors is required. Successhinges on the ability to convince all levels of management that employees thatCompany efforts in these areas are sincere and part of Company’s culture.

Position Requirements:

Qualifications :

This position usually requires the following:

B.S. in Engineering and five to eight years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Detailed knowledge of environmental remediation (including legal requirements, regulatory programs and technologies).

Knowledge of the social sciences, i.e., behavior motivations and communications

· Fundamental knowledge of statistics, mathematics, physics and chemistry

The ability to apply the principals of measurement and analysis is necessary in order to evaluate safety performance

Excellent verbal and written communications skills

Ability to interpret standards and regulations to determine the extent to which they apply to Company operations

Knowledge of the fire protection and prevention sciences and industrial hygiene

Ability to aggressively and diplomatically pursue and gain the cooperation of all echelons of management to support safety, health and environmental issues

Ability to travel 35% to 50%

5-8 years experience in the field or internal Company experience


Preference will be given to an Indian national who has worked for another legit western industrial, ideally with experience outside of India.
