Position Description:

We are currently looking for a Category Area Specialist. The candidate must sit in North America at one of our Flowserve facilities, preferably in Bethlehem, PA but open to other locations.

This position drives:

  • Accelerate cost reduction initiatives with an integrated strategy.

  • Spend aggregation, supplier optimization, economies of scale.

  • Supplier prescription for optimal performance.

  • Unify procurement procedures to secure quality and delivery reliability.

  • Category strategic plan and sourcing road maps via Cross-Functional Teams

  • Drive business reviews/negotiations/supply agreements with key suppliers and manage relationships

  • Execute Annual Operating Plan and Metrics of the commodities

  • Manage regional Castings commodity.

  • Responsible for developing & executing detailed commodity strategy.

  • Conduct or support negotiations and supplier selection


  • Drive,coordinate and implement via Category leads and cross functional teams sourcing strategies for castings commodities with global/regional and site alignment

  • Lead and manage Sourcing Projects/Strategic Initiatives via Cross-Functional teams(Product Management, Engineering/Quality/Site supply chain leads) using APQP/PPAP and supplier surveillance processes

  • Drive business reviews/negotiations/supply agreements with key suppliers and manage relationships

  • Prepare business case study with savings, investments ROI calculations as and when required for critical projects

  • Developan optimized supply base based on strategic importance/procurement value/risk dependency aspects and performance levels

  • Benchmark Global /Regional Outside Machining supply markets for driving maximum value to the business on a longer term

  • Participate,and intensify key supplier relationships using strategic alliance models with emphasis

  • Budget,plan and track Spend/Savings/LCS% and actively ensure completion with sites and regional alignment

  • Lead global negotiations, manage business reviews/supply agreements with key suppliers with the help of Category leads and cross-functional supply chain teams

  • Develop and deploy comprehensive low-cost sourcing strategies with the help of LC Steams within site regions

  • Prepare an LCS road map with improvement of Total Cost of Ownership

  • Lead and drive with the help of cross-functional teams the cost reduction road maps using Make/Buy and VAVE processes for major pumps, seal or valves categories

  • Communicate project updates, and Score Cards (Savings/Spend/LCS%/OTD/Quality), at regularintervals with gaps/risks and action plans to all stake holders

  • Proactively coordinate the completion of all activities related to internal Supply Chain tools and systems and other systems and ensure adequate usage of these by Sites and Category leads

  • Maintain close interface with other Regional Castings Category Managers

Position Requirements:

High School

Diploma or equivalent

7+ years of Supply

Chain and/or Category Management

Experience in Technical aspects casting including sand castings, die castings, investment castings,

permanent mold casting, and open/closed forgings procurement

Knowledge of foundry processes

Ability to read, understand and interpret mechanical prints

and files

Proven experience in formal and disciplined New Product

Development process (eg: Stage-Gate)

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred

Experience with Supply Chain and/or Commodity management at a Regional/Global Level is preferred

Experience with other commodities such as machining and fabrication is beneficial
