With reporting in s olid line to Director of Engineering and in dotted line to Operation Manager, t he Engineering Supervisor is responsible for managing and leading the engineers, drafters and technicians handling the Pneumatic actuator operation in Mezzago facility. The engineering supervisor owns the engineering support activities to be provided for manufacturing the LFPS actuator product line in Italy. The incumbent shall also support all the de-localization efforts carried out of Italy of identified products of Flowserve being produced globally as SPO (Secondary product organization) in China and India. The engineering supervisor will support the engineering leader to lead the LPO (lead product organization efforts) for the LFPS LPS, LPC, LHS & LHH range of HD actuators. This person will support the Engineering Director to collaborate with the product leadership team to manage the efforts to define the scope and range of the Actuator and automation standard products in Italy.
The supervisor must have excellent communication skills to interface with multiple departments located in the factory. They will also communicate with other locations that produce the actuators across the world. They also must work seamlessly with the sales, product management, product development, quality, and operations. At times, direct involvement with customers and end users will be necessary to produce orders and develop strong customer relationships.
The supervisor must possess a strong background with pneumatic and hydraulic actuators and accessories. Also the supervisor will streamline the design into low cost efficient components and BOM’s that will leave LFPS actuator products in a superior cost position in the market. The supervisor makes the final decision on part and assembly disposition when needed in the machine shop, assembly or the field and ensures that all product improvements are integrated into the standardization projects. The products that will be focused on are LFPS LPS, LPC, LHS & LHH actuators and all Automation and integration of valves with actuators.
The supervisor is responsible to retain and attract top talent, support training and development of engineers, and manage the performance in the Automation factory. Work with Global Engineering on enterprise solutions to drive towards and implement unified processes and best practices for engineering design, process efficiency, and engineering data control and access to ensure the Engineering department is able to fully support the global LFPS brand.
This leader will also work with the engineering managers in the on/off product family to mentor members of the engineering and design teams on the actuator products. He will assist the sales and commercial operations teams when they need assistance with complex or technical projects in the quotation and bid phase to help Flowserve win orders. He will train the member of the customer service team, field service team, commercial operations and sales teams as needed to strengthen the Actuation & automation organization.
Nature and Scope:
Work closely with the global automation team and product leaders to follow and participate in the FLS global strategies
Lead the LFPS standardization project inside the Italy engineering team and outside (India, China)
Lead the engineering decisions from the assembly and testing engineering efforts
Support technically the field service efforts
Support technically the sales efforts when required
Provide technical support in product de-localization and provide guidance to functions such as Supply chain and Quality. Verify all quality of the components meet the engineering standards
Represent the function during all internal, external, enlistment & new certification audits
· Drive a culture within the engineering function based on customer focus, ethics, and a strong commitment to continuous improvement and safety.
· Provide technical and thought leadership to the engineering team and on a cross-functional basis.
· Ensure product safety and regulatory compliance through implementation of rigorous design control procedures and protocols across the business.
· Through adherence to engineering standards and processes, ensure quality, reliability, and market competitiveness in all product designs and their application.
Work collaboratively with the Engineering director and other managers in the automation team to define engineering standardization opportunities that will increase engineering productivity and decrease engineering cycle time, effort and costs in the function. Principal Responsibilities:
Creation of BOMs, customer drawings (GADs & Schematics) & manufacturing drawings for new designs.
Work closely with GTEC team (Bangalore) and R&D (Piacenza).
Support the Suzhou, China growth plans and help develop the China engineering team.
Handle all internal, external, certification and enlistment audits.
Review customer specifications and translate the same to engineering deliverable.
Design and development including validation of products as identified by Engineering leadership from time to time.
Prepare, monitor and maintain regular engineering metrics and support the Engineering Director in preparation of such reports.
Partner with Operations, Sales, Quality Assurance and other stakeholders as necessary to provide customer centric and highly responsive support to resolve product performance issues in the machine shop, supply chain, assembly or the installations in the field.
Establish and administer effective processes to identify, develop and leverage specialist skillsets across the On/off valve engineering organization to meet business needs in a timely manner.
Mechanical Engineering degree or similar technical degree.
Good knowledge of P&ID.
Minimum 5 years of industrial experience with at least 3 years demonstrated experience in a technical role within the valve automation industry.
· Must be self-starting and have motivational skills and a high sense of urgency to drive and execute production and development schedules.
· Interpersonal skills are critical for optimum communication with internal and external customers.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and must be Fluent in English verbally as well as in written communication.
· Ability to produce professional engineering reports and presentations.
